Egypt

Quote from the Pharaoh of our times.
Our Nation's cause has always been larger than our Nation's defense. We fight, as we always fight, for a just peace—a peace that favors liberty. We will defend the peace against the threats from terrorists and tyrants. We will preserve the peace by building good relations among the great powers. And we will extend the peace by encouraging free and open societies on every continent."
Just three days removed from these events, Americans do not yet have the distance of history. But our responsibility to history is already clear: to answer these attacks and rid the world of evil.War has been waged against us by stealth and deceit and murder. This nation is peaceful, but fierce when stirred to anger. The conflict was begun on the timing and terms of others. It will end in a way, and at an hour, of our choosing.”

"In World War II we fought to make the world safer, then worked to rebuild it. As we wage war today to keep the world safe from terror, we must also work to make the world a better place for all its citizens."

“We have our best chance since the rise of the nation-state in the 17th century to build a world where the great powers compete in peace instead of prepare for war.”

1And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to enquire of the LORD, and sat before me.

   2Then came the word of the LORD unto me, saying,

   3Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to enquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.

   4Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers:

   5And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I am the LORD your God;

   6In the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands:

   7Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

   8But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt

A Prophecy About Egypt/America

    1 An oracle concerning Egypt:
       See, the LORD rides on a swift cloud
       and is coming to Egypt.
       The idols of Egypt tremble before him,
       and the hearts of the Egyptians melt within them.

    2 "I will stir up Egyptian against Egyptian—
       brother will fight against brother,
       neighbor against neighbor,
       city against city,
       kingdom against kingdom.

    3 The Egyptians will lose heart,
       and I will bring their plans to nothing;
       they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead,
       the mediums and the spiritists.

    4 I will hand the Egyptians over
       to the power of a cruel master,
       and a fierce king will rule over them,"
       declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty.

    5 The waters of the river will dry up,
       and the riverbed will be parched and dry.

    6 The canals will stink;
       the streams of Egypt will dwindle and dry up.
       The reeds and rushes will wither,

    7 also the plants along the Nile,
       at the mouth of the river.
       Every sown field along the Nile
       will become parched, will blow away and be no more.

    8 The fishermen will groan and lament,
       all who cast hooks into the Nile;
       those who throw nets on the water
       will pine away.

    9 Those who work with combed flax will despair,
       the weavers of fine linen will lose hope.

    10 The workers in cloth will be dejected,
       and all the wage earners will be sick at heart.

    11 The officials of Zoan are nothing but fools;
       the wise counselors of Pharaoh give senseless advice.
       How can you say to Pharaoh,
       "I am one of the wise men,
       a disciple of the ancient kings"?

    12 Where are your wise men now?
       Let them show you and make known
       what the LORD Almighty
       has planned against Egypt.

    13 The officials of Zoan have become fools,
       the leaders of Memphis [a] are deceived;
       the cornerstones of her peoples
       have led Egypt astray.

    14 The LORD has poured into them
       a spirit of dizziness;
       they make Egypt stagger in all that she does,
       as a drunkard staggers around in his vomit.

    15 There is nothing Egypt can do—
       head or tail, palm branch or reed.

    16 In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will shudder with fear at the uplifted hand that the LORD Almighty raises against them. 17 And the land of Judah will bring terror to the Egyptians; everyone to whom Judah is mentioned will be terrified, because of what the LORD Almighty is planning against them.

    18 In that day five cities in Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the LORD Almighty. One of them will be called the City of Destruction. [b]

    19 In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the heart of Egypt, and a monument to the LORD at its border. 20 It will be a sign and witness to the LORD Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the LORD because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and he will rescue them. 21 So the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the LORD. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the LORD and keep them. 22 The LORD will strike Egypt with a plague; he will strike them and heal them. They will turn to the LORD, and he will respond to their pleas and heal them.

    23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. 24 In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth. 25 The LORD Almighty will bless them, saying, "Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance."

Woe to Ariel, Ariel,
the city where David camped!
Continue year after year;
let the festivals recur.[isaiah 29.07]

[Isaiah 33.09]
Lebanon is ashamed and decayed.
Sharon is like a desert;
Bashan and Carmel shake off [their] leaves. 10 "Now I will rise up," says the Lord.
"Now I will lift Myself up.
Now I will be exalted.

Isaiah
1 Woe to Ariel, Ariel, the city where David encamped! Add year to year; let the feasts run their round. 2 Yet I will distress Ariel, and there shall be moaning and lamentation, and she shall be to me like an Ariel. 3 And I will encamp against you round about, and will besiege you with towers and I will raise siegeworks against you. 4

Remarks by the President and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in Press Availability
"THE PRESIDENT: I'm pleased to welcome Prime Minister Sharon back to the White House. For more than 50 years, Israel has been a vital ally and a true friend of America. I've been proud to call the Prime Minister my friend. I really appreciate our discussions today. The policy of the United States is to help bring peace to the Middle East and to hope -- bring hope to the people of that region."
Then all the inhabitants of Egypt
will know that I am the Lord,
for they have been a staff [made] of reed
to the house of Israel. 7 When Israel grasped you by the hand,
you splintered, tearing all their shoulders;
when they leaned on you,
you shattered and made all their hips unsteady
To Israel
5 But the multitude of your foes shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the ruthless like passing chaff. And in an instant, suddenly, 6

13 "For this is what the Lord God says: At the end of 40 years I will gather the Egyptians from the nations where they were dispersed. 14 I will restore the fortunes of Egypt and bring them back to the land of Pathros, the land of their origin. There they will be a lowly kingdom. 15 Egypt will be the lowliest of kingdoms and will never again exalt itself over the nations. I will make them so small they cannot rule over the nations. 16 It will never again be an object of trust for the house of Israel, drawing attention to their sin of turning to the Egyptians. Then they will know that I am the Lord God."
